March 15 signifies the watershed between nippy and warmth, from winter into spring, and of course the opening of the Schweizerhaus, renowned beerplace in Vindobona and as always the place for a few likeminded to assemble and let the good times roll.
From snakebite to...
...Leprechaun (look for a translation of the card!)
Within short the likes of Dodgy Condom, Lopsided Backside, Victorias Secret, Walrus, Just Robert, and later on King Ralph came along for a few beers and some some relaxed chatte. I would be all for awarding Schweizerhaus opening and closing days Hash stats, given that we've been in this place so often already. The great absentee of the day was Cardinal Munk, OVH, was is still sidelined by illness and will likely to remain so for quite some time. We all drank to his health, he phoned us up in the afternoon and maybe by some fortunate coincidence he might be back for the 2000th event in late spring. (The price for a pint of Budweiser remained the same as last year).
Straight after Pi Day it was Schweizerhaus opening day, with the usual suspects Dodgy Condom, Cardinal Munk, OVH and yours truly started things at the adjacent Englische Reiter for a couple of warmup drinks. The doors of the Schweizerhaus opened punctually at 11 a.m. and as is always the case there, the place was full within an hour. People kept coming and going, I remember the regarded presence of St. Norman, OVH, Ice Queen, Slush Puppie, Root CAnal, JustIn Beaver and I am sure that I forgot a few.

Eurohash minus 110 days. This post is dedicated to a couple of legendary Schweizerhaus alumni, namely Minuteman (went back to Tennesse) and Se* o Phone (now lives in Brisbane) Before we knew it March 15 was here again. Since the first 10 weeks of 2017 have been a complex time for various reasons the small group of the true stalwarts (which are bascially Cardinal Munk, OVH and myself) were much looking forward to the first warm-up beers at the Englische Reiter before the gates to Beer Elysium of the day were finally opened at 11 a.m.
Time always flies in the company of a beery group, this time consisting of MOM (always there), Dodgy Condom, NoBalls Prize and St.Norman (OVH). Instead of trying to describe a Happy Drinking Day with friends and always making new ones, here are some pics from the day.
We're trying to call up Se* o Phone in Brisbane, okay?
Since the Schweizerhaus closing day has just passed here is my short recollection of 2016 opening day, roughly describing the average beer drinkers routine:
Take the day off (of course!)
Get there by 10 a.m. and have your first beers at the beerplace across the road, the likewise wonderful Englische Reiter, where the real Hardcore people assemble in time.
Head towards the Schweizerhaus gates (still closed untl 11 a.m.)
Muscle your way into the garden (no sitting inside!) after the gates finally swing open at 11, ignore the TV cameras and the newspaper reporters.
Pray to the gods of your choice that your (our) good friend waiter Bertl has reserved a table for you under the moniker "Irland" like he always does.
Order your first beers and start the chitchat with fellow drinkers near you that will last for the rest of the day.
Towards the evening and if you're still able to, walk (stagger) home, try to avoid falling onto the floor thereby cracking your glasses and/or torkling into lampposts outside the place, pass out and wake up in a hospital room (has all happened to various people).
Be happy to be alive and repeat this routine on closing day.
March 15 - Schweizerhaus opening day. Beers unlimited, same old company of the drunkards microcosmos and oompah muzak. Can it get any better than this? Thanks to all that came by and helped us to celebrate.
Here are a few assorted pics for all absent friends like Minuteman et al. Thinking of you and raising a pint in your honor.
March 15. What can be said about Schweizerhaus opening day that hasn't been mentioned before? The same old crowd of the same old boozers - dare I say drunks - assembled at the usual time at the usual table. Usual business included a TV Camera filming our table and yes, we did make the local evening news, a few pics will be added shortly. Marathon Man came by from Cairo just for the occasion, Sex-O-Phone arrived at lunchtime and before long Alice, Lady Go Diver and (a little later) the Moron Brothers joined in. Yes we uphold our traditions and no we're not cheap. And yes we do still raise a glass or two to Minuteman, a true Schweizerhaus goer.
To follow up on the movie trailer from the last entry, here is the FZ sequence that refers to that film.
